Steve Allen - Thankfulness as the way of life

I preached this sermon at Oikos Fellowship in Bellingham this past Sunday. I appreciate very much Pete Williamson giving me a chance to preach. It has been a busy summer getting ready to move to Africa and I haven't had a chance to preach at all. Hope you enjoy it.

I really liked this quote, so much so that it is a short sermon today.

Because God has already laid the only foundation of our fellowship, because God has bound us together in one body with other Christians in Jesus Christ, long before we entered into common life with them, we enter into that common life not as demanders but as thankful recipients. We thank God for what He has done for us. We thank God for giving us brethren who live by His call, by His forgiveness, and His promise. We do not complain of what God does not give us; we rather thank God for what He does give us daily... In the Christian community thankfulness is just what it is anywhere else in the Christian life. Only he who gives thanks for little things receives big things. We prevent God from giving us the great spiritual gifts He has in store for us, because we do not give thanks for daily gifts.

Bryan Chapell - Thanksgiving of the Unworthy

A great passionate exposition of the story of the 10 lepers... Love his thoughts and especially his conclusion... He said, "Gratitude is the heart of faith," and later that the strength of service is found in gratitude... Check it out!

This video was produced to commemorate his life and ministry at Covenant Life as the pastoral leadership was handed off to Joshua Harris, his successor. Although it is now somewhat dated, it is still a great video to watch–to see how God’s people honor their pastor and how a pastor loves the Church and demonstrates the gospel as a passionate pacesetter and exemplar of exultation in the glory of God.
