I want your input!

It has been a great ride so far... I have learned so much and despite the rigors of discipline, it has been so challenging and encouraging to listen and grow through these sermons. It has been interesting to watch how the sermons, the weekly themes and the preachers which seem to keep reappearing, have occurred. I didn't have any plan or motive going into it. As we continue on, I would love to invite you to comment your thoughts on both what is written about but also what we themes you would like to see. If this blog is only for me, then it is worth it. But, I would love your thoughts and insight. I want to learn from you as well. What themes should I do? What speakers would you like to see added? What is your favorite sermon so far? Please, join me in this desire to learn and grow in God's word!

Thanks,
Steve

Tim Keller - Praying our Fears

Wow. Tim Keller brings it again! This sermon ministered to me so deeply as I prepare to head out with my family to Zambia in 2 months. So good. Sooooo good.

Mark Driscoll - Prayer and Repentence

A great sermon. Thorough as Driscoll tends to be, amazingly practical and gospel-driven... Amazing. He really did a great job in the sermon of speaking on this father's day, to really analyze and explain prayer, teach about how to pray and then to explain the role of repentence within prayer. If you have an hour (make an hour) this is a great sermon to listen to and then pass on to others!

John Piper - Prayer - The Power of Christian Hedonism

As I am trying to get different angles of prayer, I thought this was a great magnum opus sermon of Joh Piper. It discusses prayer within this idea of Christian Hedonism.

The quote that sums it up: "prayerlessness always produces joylessness..."

Desires - The Valley of Vision

Here is this past Sunday’s corporate prayer - taken from The Valley of Vision (p. 106):
taken from the blog of Pete Williamson, pastor of Oikos Fellowship

O Thou that hearest prayer, teach me to pray.
I confess that in religious exercises the language of my lips and the feelings of my heart have not always agreed, that I have frequently taken carelessly upon my tongue a name never pronounced above without reverence and humility, that I have often desired things which would have injured me, that I have depreciated some of my chief mercies, that I have erred both on the side of my hopes and also of my fears, that I am unfit to choose for myself, for it is not in me to direct my steps.
Let thy Spirit help my infirmities, for I know not what to pray for as I ought.
Let him produce in me wise desires by which I may ask right things, then I shall know thou hearest me.
May I never be importunate for temporal blessings, but always refer them to thy fatherly goodness, for thou knowest what I need before I ask;
May I never think I prosper unless my soul prospers, or that I am rich unless rich toward thee, or that I am wise unless wise unto salvation.
May I seek first thy kingdom and its righteousness.
May I value things in relation to eternity.
May my spiritual welfare be my chief solicitude.
May I be poor, afflicted, despised and have thy blessing, rather than be successful in enterprise, or have more than my heart can wish, or be admired by my fellow-men, if thereby these things make me forget thee.
May I regard the world as dreams, lies, vanities, vexation of spirit, and desire to depart from it.
And may I seek my happiness in thy favour, image, presence and service.

John Piper - Meditate on the Word of God day and night

Why did I pick this Piper sermon during Prayer week? Piper answers this question in the first line of his sermon, " So why begin Prayer Week with this psalm and this focus on delighting in the law of God? Well, where is this psalm? It is the beginning of the book of Psalms. And what are the psalms? Many of them are prayers. In fact, the Psalter is the prayer book of the Bible. Millions of Christians go to the Psalms to find words for the cry of their hearts in the worst of times and the best of times. So I begin Prayer Week with Psalm 1 because the Bible begins its prayer book with Psalm 1."

I am really trying to focus on sermons on prayer this week that look at different angles of prayer that we don't often think about... I am really encouraged today and reminded of the importance of scripture to my strength and joy of praying.

Be encouraged!

Dr. Martin Lloyd Jones - Prayer

This week we are going to hear from great men about prayer. I am starting it off with Dr. Martin Lloyd-Jones. I have heard his name a lot over the years, but during one message in particular by Tim Keller, he referred to this man as "The Doctor." I really respect Tim Keller and so I have been on a hunt to try and find some Lloyd-Jones sermons. I found a great one! Wow. This message was amazing. I can't really describe it, but I can see why he had such an impact. Stirring, holy-spririt empowering, thought-provoking and wholly different. This is a great start and a must hear... (I hope you like the picture:) And you have to love who the foreward is from!)
