Tim Keller - Christ, Our life

This is typical Keller bringing it home! He takes his gospel approach and really illustrates it well especially with a story of young, abused woman who describes idolatry as good as it can be. A great add to this week on Christ Alone!!!

Tim Keller - Being the Church in our Culture

You can't talk about church without letting Tim Keller in on the conversation. This talk, given to pastors and leaders, at the Reform and Resurge conference at Mars Hill Church in Seattle, Washington in 2006 was and is classic Keller. Detailed, helpful, and challenging. Mark Driscoll's introductory words about Keller are very revealing of the impact that Keller has had on many pastors and after this talk, you can see why... Check it out!

Tim Keller - The Gospel and your Wealth

I had a friend send me an email about a couple of different sermons that she listened to by Tim Keller after being introduced to him on this website. She wrote, "If you do a week on money and possessions you've gotta include Keller's Grace and Money, my husband and I both agree it's the best message we've heard about money and how it is the "bottom line" in how much of the grace of God we have experienced in our lives."

Well I took her suggestion and this week is Money Week! I listened to that sermon and I definitely agree... It's life altering, grace awakening, world changing stuff. But, that sermon, Grace and Money is tomorrow. The sermon today is I believe the prerequisite to Grace and Money, as it sets it up and prepares the way... It is going to be a great week, so buckle up!!!

Tim Keller - Messengers

I want to end the week with a great sermon on the purpose of our lives, to be sent as messengers into the world. It is a perfect conclusion to a week of Dr. Keller and a great way to apply what is learned through this man. I trust you have been encouraged this week.

Tim Keller - Why we plant churches

(This is my favorite picture of Dr. Keller:)

I listened to this lecture more for me than anything, not expecting it would have mass appeal for this blog. But, the more I listened, the more I was challenged and encouraged and the more I thought everyone needs to listen to this message. It is an encouragement to those who are knee deep in Church planting, wondering if all the hard work and blood, sweat tears are worth it. And, it is a challenge to those who have been in the same church for a lot of years and who are not even thinking of church planting. Very clear, intriguing and thought provoking... I encourage you to listen to this lecture.

Tim Keller - Lord of the Wine

I know I keep saying you need to listen to this, but, this sermon blew my mind. Keller unpacks the first miracle of Jesus, turning water into wine, and explains it so clearly and brilliantly. Brilliant is the word I kept muttering to myself as I listened to this sermon. I just wish everyone could hear this sermon, both Christians and non-Christians. Listen. Listen. Listen. Amazing.

Tim Keller - How To Change

The third part of this series and a title that just sums it up, "How to Change..." He talks about the nature of change, the pattern of change and the process of change using Galatians 5 and a look at the fruit of the spirit. It is, well, life-changing...

Tim Keller - Changed Lives

My wife asked me what the theme was this week. I said, "Tim Keller!" and so it is. Tim Keller, every day, all week... Please, do yourself and eternity a favor by listening to this guy. He is brilliant, well read and somehow preaches equally amazing to both non-believers as well as believers... A pastor friend told me about him and I haven't been the same since. He speaks such truth about the gospel and how to live changed lives from the inside out. And that is what makes his sermons so amazing. He isn't out to impress or entertain or make us laugh. He just expounds the Bible with incredible illustrations and insights. He makes the Bible come alive, literally. He inspires me to be a better teacher, actually, more than that, he has opened my eyes on how to become a better teacher.

The first three days will be his "Changed people"sermons. They are so good.

Tim Keller - Blueprint fror Revival:Social Concern

I am heading out of town tomorrow and so I thought I would get tomorrow done today. Tim Keller is one of the leading voices in many areas, but among them is the church, church planting and being a light in the city. For some of the resources that he offers, check out this cool blog. In this talk he is finishing up a five week series of what he views as the five necessary components of every church body. The last is social concern, or working and loving the poor. As I mentioned before, his talk titled Blessed are the Poor was my first sermon added, and it is a thorough apologetic of the Bible, the Christian and the Poor. This talk is a little more roundabout, but in his teaching he gives great theology for why the poor and then answers all the contending questions we all have that keep us from loving on the poor. Tim Keller is amazing at his ability to throughly teach and wholly convince and painfully convict. After listening to Tim Keller, I am not sure how any church can not see that it is God's will for churches to work for love on the poor. Let me know if you agree or disagree...

Dr. Tim Keller - Blessed are the Poor

The first sermon posting is always going to be a difficult one, so I am first going to use the cliche "not necessarily in this order" out to just allow me to start somewhere.

The first sermon is from Tim Keller... If you haven't heard of Tim Keller, you have been missing out. I was just recently told about him, and already I have felt my world being altered and shifted in many ways. How do you pick a sermon by this guy as the one to listen to? Many may question this one as the one, but I just was struck with his insight and claims about the poor andI found it so enlightening, I guess I kind of wanted it to be a foundation for all that comes next. There are probably more exciting preachers to listen to, whose voices fluctuate more often, who jump and down and make you cry, but in terms of experience, thought provoking passion and insight, the Spirit of God is in Mr. Keller.

Tim Keller is an author, a speaker and the founding pastor of Redeemer Presbysterian Church in New York City, New York. For a great link of his resources, click here.

The sermon is titled, Blessed are the Poor.

If you want to download the link, click here. (You will need to scroll down find it under serving sermons... At the risk of repeating myself, this really is an amazing link of resources for Tim Keller, by the way... Check it out!)

If you want to stream the talk, click here.

I was trying to think of how to I could qualify or quantify what a sermon should be that would enable it to make the "cut" as part of the sermon of the day blog. And I feel unworthy of even commentating on men whom I am influenced by and in such respect of... When you get down to it, what sets a sermon apart in such a way, that it is really isn't just a preference thing. What makes one worship song on a Chris Tomlin CD a #1 hit where another is just o.k? And why does the one song resonate with so many? In some ways, sermons are I guess similar to this? A fresh look at a familiar passage? Some extra time of mediating and living the Word that week? Some prayer and fasting?

This sermon says things that I have never heard about the poor, words that can literally transform a life. Keller's words on the poor, albeit not a new concept or his invention, are so clearly explained that it has begun a change in my life in a way that when I look back in years to come will have this sermon as the catalytic point...

Enjoy!
